How Long Does It Take To Transfer Money To Ameritrade

Self Service - Cash Management

1) How do I make an electronic (ACH) deposit into my client's account?

You can transfer funds into client accounts—as well as make IRA contributions—from the Cash Management section of Self-Service .

To move money electronically, two things must be in place:

  1. Permission : The client account must show that these transactions are permitted. To establish client permission, please have your client complete, sign, and submit the Move Money (or IRA Move Money) Advisor Authorization form. Once these forms are received by TD Ameritrade Institutional, please allow 24 hours for the instructions to be added and permission(s) enabled.

  2. Bank information : The account must have one or more banks set up to transfer funds into and out of. Please contact your Regional Service Team for information on how to set up bank information for an account.

Once you've established permission and bank information, follow these steps to make an electronic deposit for one of your accounts:

  • Go to Accounts and choose Self-Service.

  • Select the Cash Management tab.

  • Enter the account number you'd like to deposit money into, or click Choose Account to select one.

  • Select ACH IN Request below Request Type.

  • Select a fund source by clicking the bank the funds will come from.

  • Select a transaction frequency, and enter a start date.

  • Enter the dollar amount to be transferred from the bank account to the TD Ameritrade account.

  • Click Preview once you've finished entering the deposit information. From the Preview page, you can review and edit the request details as you've entered them by clicking Modify , or cancel the request by clicking Cancel .

  • If you are ready to enter the request, click Submit on the Preview page.

To view the status of your transactions or to Modify/Cancel a transaction in process, go to the Status tab in Self-Service and filter by status, transaction details, or account detail(s). You can set up custom filters.

Important - Funds availability and cut-off times

  • Funds deposited to TD Ameritrade electronically can be used immediately for trading most marginable securities.

  • Funds deposited electronically can be used to purchase non-marginable securities, initial public offering (IPO) stocks, or options* three business days after settlement date.

  • Funds deposited electronically may be withdrawn three business days after settlement date. However, all electronic deposits are subject to review.

  • Deposit requests submitted by 5 p.m. ET will be posted the next business day after the request.

  • Deposit requests submitted after 5 p.m. ET, on a weekend, or on a holiday will be posted the second business day after the request.

*Options are not suitable for all investors as the special risks inherent to options trading may expose investors to potentially rapid and substantial losses. Please read Characteristics and Risks of Standardized Options before investing in options.

2) How do I make an electronic (ACH) withdrawal from my client's account?

You can transfer funds out of client accounts—as well as make IRA distributions—from the Cash Management section of Self-Service .

To move money electronically, two things must be in place:

  • Enter the dollar amount to be transferred from your client's TD Ameritrade account to the bank account.

  • Click Preview once you've finished entering the withdrawal information. From the Preview page, you can review and edit the request details as you've entered them by clicking Modify , or cancel the request by clicking Cancel .

  • If you are ready to enter the request, click Submit on the Preview page.

To view the status of your transactions or to Modify/Cancel a transaction in process, go to the Status tab in Self-Service and filter by status, transaction details, or account detail(s). You can set up custom filters.

Important - Funds availability and cutoff times : If your electronic withdrawal request is received before 4:30 p.m. ET, it will be processed the following business day. If your request is received at or after 4:30 p.m. ET, it will be processed in two business days.

3) How can I request a check withdrawal in a client account?

You can request a check from one of your client accounts—including an IRA distribution—from the Cash Management section of Self Service .

To request a check withdrawal from one of your accounts:

  • Go to Accounts and choose Self Service .

  • Select the Cash Management tab.

  • Select the account you'd like by entering the account number, or clicking Choose Account to select one.

  • Select Check Request under the request type.

  • For a one-time request, enter a transaction date. To set up a recurring transaction, select a start date and desired frequency. (Specifying an end date is optional, as instructions can be modified or cancelled at any time.)

    • You can set up a transaction up to 30 days in advance.

    • You can set up recurring transactions up to 2 years in advance.

  • Enter the dollar amount to be withdrawn from the TD Ameritrade account.

  • Select the delivery method—U.S. First-Class Mail or overnight delivery (billed at cost). (For Saturday delivery, please contact your Regional Service Team.)

  • Click Preview if you're finished entering information as you want it. You'll then have the chance to review and edit the request details as you've entered them, or to cancel the request. When you're ready to enter the request, click Submit on the preview screen.

  • Click Cancel if you don't want to proceed with the transaction.

To view the status of your transactions or to Modify/Cancel a transaction, go to the Status tab in Self-Service and filter by status, transaction details, or account detail(s). You can set up custom filters.

Important: Request details and cut-off times

All check requests submitted online will be made payable to the account registration and mailed to the address of record. Requests submitted after 5:30 p.m. ET will be processed on the following business day.

Please contact your Regional Service Team for the following check requests:

  • Third-party checks

  • Checks to be mailed to an alternative address

There may be a cost associated with overnight delivery and Saturday delivery. Please contact your Regional Service Team for more information.

4) How can I request a wire in a client account?

5) How do I transfer money between TD Ameritrade accounts?

You can transfer funds between TD Ameritrade client accounts from the Cash Management section of Self Services .

To perform an internal transfer between TD Ameritrade accounts:

  • Go to Accounts and choose Self Service .

  • Select the Cash Management tab.

  • Select the account you would like funds to be transferred from by entering the account number, or clicking Choose Account to select one.

  • Select Internal Transfer as the type of transaction you're requesting.

  • Select the account you would like funds to be transferred to by choosing a previously stored account from the Fund Destination drop down. If no account(s) are established, you must choose Manual Submission .

  • You may then enter an account number, or clicking Choose Account to select one.

  • For Transaction Date/Frequency , only One-time may be chosen.

    • You can set up a transaction date between today and up to 2 years in advance.

  • Enter the dollar amount to be transferred to the specified TD Ameritrade account.

  • Click Preview if you're finished entering information as you want it. You'll then have the chance to review and edit the request details as you've entered them, or to cancel the request. When you're ready to enter the request, click Submit on the preview screen.
